The Scap Load Drill in baseball helps hitters improve their swing by focusing on engaging the upper back (scapula). Here’s a simple breakdown for players from 7th grade to college:
-
What is Scap Loading?
- It’s when you pull your back shoulder (scapula) slightly back and down before swinging. This movement creates tension and power, setting you up for a stronger, faster swing.
-
Why it’s important:
- Engages your upper body muscles.
- Helps you generate more bat speed.
- Keeps your swing compact and powerful.
-
How to do the drill:
- Start in your batting stance.
- As the pitcher starts their motion, pull your back shoulder gently toward your spine while keeping your front shoulder relaxed.
- Feel the “stretch” in your back (scapula area), like you’re coiling a spring.
- From this loaded position, swing through the ball using the power built up from your back.
-
Focus points:
- Keep the load smooth and not jerky.
- Don’t overdo it; small movement is enough.
- Keep your eyes on the ball and stay balanced.
